Brandi Carlile has a song called "Have you ever" that is about being outdoors and part of the world...with all due respect to her far superior writing abilities:
Do you know that moment in summer when it's hot - not too hot - mid-afternoon, and everywhere is silent but for the drone of the insects, and perhaps a far-distant lawnmower? The kids are off playing god-knows-where and the adults are laying in a chair on the back patio, dozing?
It was an old-fashioned feeling, from my childhood, but it was this afternoon. Now that I'm an adult, I was napping. :)
I'm now into my dinner of greens, strawberries, cucumber, feta cheese, and smoked salmon - all from the farmer's market. Today at the farmer's market I signed up for a milkman to deliver my milk, cheese, and yogurt. Followed by homemade strawberry ice cream and fresh mint ice cream. Sooooo good. If I can find a vendor with good meats, I may never set foot in a grocery store until fall... okay, other than for cat food.
I love summer.
