Around the Tri-Cities (Kennewick, Pasco, Richland, WA)
I didn’t sleep well last night - wired from a conference call - and then was up early this a.m., still stewing on all my thoughts. I heard the neighbor leave about 6 a.m. and it woke me up… then I watched the sunrise for a while. Finally I decided sleep wasn’t coming back, and it was too early to disturb my hosts so I headed out to the Kennewick Library to address a couple of emails that needed sending. Among the emails I received was one from my Aunt Kathy, who said, "Hey, I have a SURPRISE for you. Those really aren't Christmas presents that I sent with you. Because you kept your car so freaken locked all the time, and the keys hidden under your body while you slept, I had to disguise all the "Aunt Verna" gifts as Christmas presents."
Ah, great. Just what I wanted. I still don’t know if I have The Rock, but I do know I have a chicken that does the chicken dance. It also makes choking noises if you pick it up by the neck. Paul’s cat was quite terrified of it. That’s a prize.
I headed back to Paul’s and could have gone back to bed, but it was not to be. We went out to a country market store, and then on to the Preston winery. Afterward we had lunch, and Mike Mai finally managed to find his way across the state to join us. First comment out of Mike’s mouth: “Did you see the sign for the Sausage Fest?” Mike couldn’t keep a straight face on that one. From a certain point of view, it is pretty funny:
And the sausage jokes continued for the rest of the afternoon…
We hit a few more wineries in the afternoon and one brew pub (Paul was our designated driver). We played games at the brewpub and failed to notice they close at five. We went to Famous Dave’s BBQ for dinner, then home for some chocolate for dessert. Yum.
I think the wine was catching up with us, however, as pretty much all we wanted to do was sleep. It’s a Friday night and we can’t make it past 10 p.m… wow, that’s sad.
