at yourself.
Today, karmically speaking, has not been good.
Crook threw up this morning shortly after eating. Then again, on my bed. Then a third time - by now, just saliva. Then he lolled around with no interest in food. If you know my cat, you know that's alarming. Cue visit to vet.
I went out to get the mail and was looking at two trees in front of my house. On one of them, the base looks decidedly worse than it did before. Hmm. Put in a call to my tree guy. I'm betting it needs to come down.
Visited my pond; pretty clogged up. No biggie here - did a little skimming, cleaned the basket, restarted, all good.
Take cat to vet. Cat is obese. Nurse giggles when she looks at him. "Well, other than his obesity, he seems in good shape." That's what they always say. We do some bloodwork anyway; he is getting old, and the obesity can lead to diabetic complications. $240 later, I'm on my way home. Crook promptly tears into food once he's home. "Mom, if you don't make me go back there, I'll eat everything in sight." I haven't even given him his pills yet.
I decide to make dinner - a chili I really enjoy. I start to simmer the chicken stock, ancho chiles (dried) and cayenne pepper (1 t.). I pull out the beef to cut it into smaller pieces and think - hmm - this smells old. Check the date: it was packed on 10/23 and said to use by 11/4 (yesterday). Hmm. I don't like that. Well, I can make it chicken chili. I check that: use by today, and it also doesn't smell great. Sigh. I decide tonight is not chili night. But, I think, I can finish off the chili stock and get new ingredients for tomorrow. I simmer it up, then pour it into the blender to puree.
You can see it coming, can't you? Somehow the lid pops off, and I and my kitchen are splattered with chili sauce. Thank goodness it is not a particularly spicy chili. Nevertheless - flush the eyes. Keep cold water on my face. I ultimately am able to move on to aloe vera. I have what looks like a burn (which it basically is) from just above my left eyelid, around the inside of the eye, and down the left side of my nose. Okay, really, not a chili night. But this gives me special permission to have a pear cider. What? Among other things, the bottle is cold. Phfew.
Now we are going to go crawl in bed and tell the universe we're done for the day. All done! Okay? Good.
